Our students are loving the First Year Model and it's proven effective with our first-year pass rate increasing to above 80% since its introduction. They’re also getting better grades: over 40% of students have received distinctions and high distinctions, without a change to the assessments given.

What is VU's First Year Model?

What our students are saying about their first year at VU

In 2018, we designed a new way of learning to make your transition into university easier and give you the skills to succeed when you enter the workforce.

Rather than dealing with the stress of studying 4 units at once as you would at any other University, the First Year Model lets you focus on studying one unit at a time, completing a unit every 4 weeks.

VU'S FIRST YEAR MODEL — A REVOLUTIONARY WAY TO STUDY FIRST YEAR UNI

Why is VU's First Year Model better for me?

You'll have a greater chance of success

More students are performing well in first year than ever before. First-year pass rates increased to over 80% in 2018 and students receiving distinctions and high distinctions jumped to 40% for the same assessments as 2017.

You'll feel less stressed

You only have to focus on one subject at a time. At other universities, you will complete multiple units at once.

Your transition to uni will be easier

You'll complete 1 subject every 4 weeks (including exams), building confidence and momentum in your studies from day one.

You'll feel supported

Learn in smaller classes and have more one-on-one time with your teachers.

Check out this video to hear from our students about how VU's First Year Model is working for them.

"The most hands-on experience", "work placements from the start" and "passionate teachers" are just some of the reasons students love studying with us.

WHY I CHOSE VU

HOW IS VU'S FIRST YEAR MODEL DIFFERENT TO THE TRADITIONAL MODEL?

"....spacing it (exams and assessments) out across a whole semester makes a lot more sense to me. It seems to be really resonating at VU, I know that a lot of my fellow students really enjoy it."

Three simple ways to transition into uni

Compared to high school, university is an entirely different ball game.

Here are three tips to help ease you into uni life.
